Love's Singe - Part II

Love's singe - A warrior's story (Part II)

Part II

This war wasn't as easy as Andrew thought it would be. He pondered and pondered.

“Minister, don’t you feel there is something different about this war? Don’t you see something out of order in this war?", asked Andrew in a low tone.

"I wonder why it feels like we are fighting a losing war? The mind behind this planned execution is very intelligent. We need to decode this war to win it. We need to find what their next move would be”, said Andrew thoughtfully.

The Minister was quietly looking at Andrew. This was the first time Andrew’s army heard him talk about decoding. They looked at him in dismay.

“Bring the chess board!” said Andrew. He placed the playing pieces on the board and his minister sat opposite to him.

He looked at his minister and said, “This isn’t just a game of the common man, it is between two witty army generals where one is fighting for a friend and the other is fighting for his kingdom. So let me play both the sides,” said Andrew with a smile.

Andrew took up the black pieces as his and the white to be that of his opponents. The match went on for 3 hours and it was the longest chess game the soldiers had ever witnessed. Finally, black won.

Andrew looked at the men who were looking at him keenly and said, “This war is ours.”

“HURRAY!!! HURRAY!!! HURRAY!!!” the men rejoiced. The war went on for a couple of days. As they were treading back to their camp, that night, he heard his men talk.

One of them said, “I wish we win tonight! I want to meet my lady.”

“Yes, even I miss my love!” said another.

“Combatant Andrew!” it was the Minister.

“Yes… ” replied Andrew.

“It was a great move General!” said the Minister.

Andrew smiled.

Soldiers loved Andrew as they had never seen him shrug responsibilities, they had never seen him back-out at war. He was a lion on land and a crocodile in water when it came to the battlefield.

Nobody knew the boundaries as much as he did. He was the best with his word and they had never seen a man stand up against him.

“When do you think this war would end?” asked a soldier in a concerned tone.

“What’s the hurry man?” mocked Andrew.

“I want to get back home. My lady would be waiting for me!”

“Waiting...?” giggled Andrew.

“I miss her Sire!!! Isn’t there anyone you love?” asked the inquisitive soldier.

“Me…? No…!” said Andrew on a lighter note.

There was silence in the air. No one dared to reply. They knew he was the heartthrob of women and there were many who envied him.

That night seemed to be a different one to Andrew. As he was walking on the seashore he saw something written on the sand. He read:

Dear comrades of war,
A fearful night it has been
Leaving us all shattered and torn,
I wonder if this can be the end of all that's left
And I wish I could take the days to the way things were
As I pay and shed my tears
I now see how it has all ended
I lay here and think of everything that once was ours,
But have come to realize there's no more of that as it has passed.

He looked around to see if there was anyone around, but the loud waves were all that he could see.

As he sat on the shore; he felt lonely, for the first time. All these years he hadn’t spent a night alone. He felt that he had lived a life with no one to own. He had, had women, but, today he felt there was something missing in his life. He felt as if life had left him empty. He felt a feel that he could not express. Those "numb" moments of ecstasy and pain gave him something to hold, but what it was he could not guess.

He sat there looking at every wave hitting the shore. Every wave, regardless of how high and forceful, crested and eventually collapsed within itself. He was staring at the sea and little did he realize that he was already sailing with it. To Andrew, life was a wave, which in no two consecutive moments of its existence composed of the same. In the dim moonlight everything seemed to rejoice in joy. There was something that seemed to have filled everything around him, which he hadn’t seen all these years. He sat there looking around, then laid on his back, and looked at the moon.

A soft hand touched his shoulder, he jumped to his feet, took his sword. He saw a girl; she had a message in her hand.

“Who are you? What are you doing here at this hour?” yelled Andrew.

“I am Salina. I have been sent by Prince Tony to adorn you’re…”

“Sent by Prince Tony ..?” stressed Andrew.

“Yes Your…”

“For what?” he asked an absurd question.
She looked at him, smiled, and handed him a message.

Andrew took the message from her hand and started reading, it was from Tony.

It was a long one and Andrew was surprised to receive a message from Tony. There were many times when Andrew had been out fighting wars, but this was the first time that he was receiving a message from Tony.

Dear Andrew,

I hope everything is fine. I have heard a lot about the way things are going on at war and I am glad to know that we are in the gaining position. Please remember it is not a war, but, my love that you are fighting for.
Sometimes in life we love something so much that it hurts to leave, but we must. Sometimes it hurts too much to hold on to the thing we love and sometimes we let go of what we love because it hurts, but then it is always the 'time' that decides.

I am at the mercy of ‘time’ because even once I haven’t had the feeling that I would be able to let go off her even though it hurts. With her my heart will stay, with her my thoughts will be, with her my life would remain. If you lose this war I’ll forever think of what I could've done that was never done. You might ask me to stop all this but then it’s hard for me to ask my mind to stop loving her when my heart still does. I love her more than you'll ever know.

You have always been there for me and you are my courage. All these years when you were at war I had never felt this emptiness that I feel now. When love hurts; only friends can heel, but now even you are far away. Every night I sleep joyfully because I know I can be dreaming about her but when it dawns it hurts because I wake up realizing, it isn’t true. As a part of her has grown in me, together forever we shall be. If in case you lose this war, and if I don’t get to have her as mine, I'll die a silent death.

Take Care.
                                                             Forever yours,
                                      Tony
